63-year-old man flown to Lismore hospital following Yamba Road crash

Traffic was brought to a standstill for several hours as local man pulled from wreckage of car in single-vehicle incident

Police have given details on a single-vehicle crash that caused extensive delays on the entrance to Yamba on Wednesday afternoon.

Officer in charge Grafton police station Chief Inspector Jo Reid said that a 63-year-old Yamba man was driving east in a Mitsubishi van near North Bank Road Palmers Island when the vehicle left the road.

The van hit a power-pole and the man was trapped in the wreckage.

Emergency services including police, SES, ambulance and the Westpac Rescue Helicopter attended the scene as large banks of traffic built up on Yamba Road.

The man was trapped for more than two hours before being freed, and was then treated by both NSW ambulance and Westpac Rescue Helicopter paramedics.

He was flown to Lismore Base Hospital by helicopter with a broken leg and other pelvic injuries in a stable condition.

Police are continuing to investigate the incident, and any information can be reported to the Grafton police or Crimestoppers.
