It’s time for Clarence Valley Council’s committee meetings – see what we’ve picked out of interest from the business papers this week

1. New car wash for Grafton

Council committee will consider an application from the Brewhouse Group at the old Tooheys Brewery site for a two car bay car wash. The original application requested the site to be open 24 hours a day, however staff’s recommendation following assessment of submissions is that it be allowed with opening hours from 7am-8pm

2. From appliances to rigs

The former Repairs and Spares site is proposed to be a new gym – from Hybrid Fitness whose home used to be at the Brewery Complex. They are looking to transfer the Fitzroy Street site into an indoor gym facility. They have applied for a variation of four carparking spaces from the plan, however council officers are recommending an upgrade of the parking area.

3. A matter of the gutter

A new two lot subdivision at 115 Jubilee Street was approved in March 2021 with one of its condition requiring the upgrade and sealing of Jubilee Street including kerb and guttering. They are now seeking leave to remove that requirement from their development. Council officers are not in support of this issue, and thus the matter has been sent to the council meeting.

4. Come on bring the music (softly)

A new live music venue and boutique bar in Yamba’s CBD is up for review. The small bar in a now existing shop has received 45 submission, many in support of a much-needed music venue. However, there were concerns over noise, alcohol related issues and NSW Police objecting to the proposal. Council’s officers however have set a stringent set of rules to recommend the development to council.

5. Money matters

Council will again consider reports on updates to its borrowing policy that were deemed insufficiently identify updates to their borrowing policy that reflected an increase in the sustainable debt level of $197m. They will also received a final update on the achievements of council’s Fit For the Future improvement strategies for the 2020/21 financial year.
