THE Clarence Valley Council has been granted $300,000 to help with the restoration of assets damaged by floods in June last year.

Member for Clarence Chris Gulaptis and Finance Minister Greg Pearce announced the grant yesterday, saying that once the eligible works had been completed the council would be reimbursed for costs up to the approved amount.

Mr Gulaptis said the grant would cover the costs of repairing the levee north of the Ulmarra ferry.

"The levee is an important piece of flood prevention infrastructure, not only for the local community, but the region, as it protects the vital link that is the Pacific Highway," Mr Gulaptis said.

"Thousands of people were evacuated from riverside towns in the Mid North Coast region, communities were isolated and tens of thousands of acres of farm land went under water."
