When it comes to sport the G-train - legends of sport from the Clarence Valley - has long been steaming on, producing the likes of hockey’s Brent Livermore, the NRL’s Danny Wicks and cricket’s Anika Learoyd.
But there’s a new wave a’comin - and some of the top up and gunnabes from the valley have just been feted.
Gen Next was recognised at a local ceremony as winners in the federal government’s Local Sporting Champions Grants.
Page MP Kevin Hogan was on hand to present certificates of achievement to 29 young Clarence Valley athletes.
“The Local Sporting Champions program provides financial assistance to young people aged between 12 and 18 years to compete, coach or umpire in their chosen sport,” Mr Hogan said.
The young local champions in the making enjoyed a morning tea and a moment of the publicity which beckons at the South Grafton Bowling Club ceremony.
