Yamba: Teens on assault charges after alleged terror trail

The area outside a popular eatery erupted with three teens now facing charges after allegations of assault and property damage to buildings and a vehicle. See the dramatic CCTV stand-off video.

Flashpoint in downtown Yamba

A melee on the main street of Yamba has seen three people arrested and a magistrate remark on the “seriousness” of the alleged violence.

Two males and a woman allegedly assaulted two men outside the Mexican restaurant on Coldstream Street at about 9.50pm on Saturday, September 24.

They allegedly continued on to damage windows of the neighbouring property and a car.

The group, along with another unknown female, then allegedly assaulted a female, a staff member at the Wobbly Chook Brewery across the road, smashing her mobile phone, before damaging the windows of a second property.

Two males, aged 18 and 15, and a female aged 18 were arrested on Yamba Street a short time later by police and taken to Yamba Police Station.

Ezekiel Keleris, 18, was refused bail and appeared in Grafton Local Court on September 26 charged with three counts of assault causing actual bodily harm, three counts of destroying property, using an offensive weapon and affray.

He was refused bail to appear again in mid-October.

CCTV footage obtained by the Grafton Daily Examiner shows a hooded man swinging a long implement at other people on the footpath outside the restaurant, as part of an altercation involving at least six people on Coldstream Street.

In a bail review hearing on October 4, it was heard that golf clubs and shopping trolleys were allegedly used during the incident.

The woman was charged with assault causing actual bodily harm, destroying property (domestic violence) and affray.

She was given conditional bail to appear in Maclean Local Court in late October.

The 15-year-old was charged with assault causing actual bodily harm, affray, and possessing a knife in a public place.

He was given conditional bail to appear in a Children’s Court in October.
