A three-year-old girl has suffered “serious” lacerations to her head, back and arm after being attacked by a kangaroo at a family property on Thursday night.

The girl was sitting on the porch of an Armidale home on Balgownie Drive around 6pm when she was attacked.

NSW Paramedics were called to the home, where they stabilised the girl and performed initial treatment on her injuries.

The girl was flown to John Hunter Hospital in the Westpac Rescue Helicopter.

“The young patient had suffered a number of deep lacerations, including a wound to the side of her head as a result of this attack,” NSW Ambulance Inspector Brian Larkin said.

“There is no doubt this would have been a terrifying ordeal for the little girl, who appeared to be in shock when paramedics arrived.”

A critical care team on-board the Westpac Rescue Helicopter then took over, transporting the girl to John Hunter Hospital by chopper.

“The little girl who suffered serious lacerations after the kangaroo was seen to access the rear porch of the property where the child was,” the helicopter service said in a statement.

“The little girl was further stabilised prior to being flown to John Hunter Hospital in a stable condition for further treatment.”

The girl’s mum travelled with her during the 55 minute flight to hospital.

It’s understood she remains in a stable condition this morning.
