The family of a baby boy born six months after his father was allegedly stabbed to death at the Royal Easter Show says the newborn is “the image of his daddy”.
Baby Uati was born last week, giving much-needed happiness to his mother Taylor Piliae, 19, who was just three months pregnant when her partner Uati Faletolu died.
As the newborn and his mother settle into life together without Uati, Ms Piliae’s family has set up a fundraiser to help support them.
“Taylor has welcomed their beautiful healthy baby boy Uati - named after his daddy - into the world, all while mourning the death of her partner, the father he was meant to be, and the family that never was,” the family said.
“Navigating motherhood is hard enough but being young, single and grieving makes it that much tougher, both mentally and financially.”
“I’m hoping we can raise some money for Taylor and baby to make this journey easier for them both. Any amount helps and will be very much appreciated.”
Mr Faletolu was working as a ride operator at the show on April 11 when he was allegedly stabbed in the chest, and died at the scene.
A brave Ms Piliae vowed to raise their baby just as his dad had planned to.
“She’s doing so well.. the baby is perfect, he’s the image of his daddy,” a family spokesperson said.
Ms Piliae’s sister Bree posted photos of the baby on social media earlier this week, showing the newborn being cuddles by his aunt.
“Welcome to the world bubba. My heart’s so full. I love you so much,” she wrote.
