More than 100 towns and suburbs across greater Sydney, the Central Coast, Hunter Region and Mid-North Coast are at risk of becoming inundated as one of NSW’s most severe flood disasters in recorded history continues to unfold.
The NSW SES has issued 34 red-alert emergency warnings urging residents to evacuate, move to higher ground or shelter in place, with a total of 143 warnings in place as of 1PM Thursday.
In the list below, red represents the most severely affected communities. People living within amber/orange zones must prepare to evacuate or be isolated by floodwater, while those in yellow are advised to monitor conditions and stay informed.
HAWKESBURY
Flood alerts issued by the Bureau of Meteorology warn rainfall throughout the week has caused small water level rises on both the Nepean and Hawkesbury rivers, putting low-lying areas at risk of minor flooding overnight. This may rise to the moderate flood level by Friday afternoon.

CENTRAL COAST
Near-constant rain has resulted in minor flooding on Tuggerah Lake and Lake Budgewoi, and with the wet weather expected to continue on Friday residents in low-lying homes near the lakes’ shores are advised to closely monitor the situation.

Power and other essential services are now being impacted in the Hunter region, where many small towns along the Hunter River will be threatened by moderate-level flooding by Friday morning. Major flooding may develop along the Wollombi Brook at Bulga.

NEWCASTLE
While the suburbs of Newcastle are at low risk of inundation, the NSW SES is warning residents to steer clear of floodwaters along the waterways.

LAKE MACQUARIE
Most lakeside communities along the NSW coast are advised to monitor conditions and stay informed with the latest updates. At Dora Creek near Lake Eraring, some streets are being warned to prepare to be isolated.

MID-COAST AND MID-NORTH COAST
The Mid-North Coast region has borne the brunt of NSW’s current flood disaster, with the bulging Hastings River causing major flooding at Wauchope and Settlement Point, while Kindee Bridge remains at high risk. Major flooding is also occurring at Macksville where the Nambucca River is still rising. The Macleay River at Georges Creek, as is Kalang River at Urunga. Major flooding continues at Taree.
Three people from the region have died in the floods, including a 63-year-old man from Moto, a 60-year-old woman from Dorrigo and a man in his 30s near Wauchope.
