Power outages have left 45,000 Ausgrid customers in the dark in Sydney’s Eastern Suburbs as temperatures climb above 30C.
Supply was interrupted shortly before 11.30am in more than a dozen suburbs, including Randwick, Bondi, Double Bay, Coogee, Point Piper and Rose Bay.
“The cause is not known at this stage. Emergency crews will need to locate and isolate the fault before they can restore power safely,” Ausgrid said in a statement.

At least 33,000 homes and businesses are affected.
The blackout comes after warnings that NSW was facing a potential shortfall in back-up power today after two power stations broke down ahead of the day’s expected hot weather.
AGL’s Liddell power station, in the Hunter Valley and Origin’s Eraring power station on Lake Macquarie were both suffering broken generators yesterday, taking about 1300 megawatts of supply out of the system.
