Shattered friends of a young teenager who died from a suspected overdose on the weekend have paid tribute following her shock death.

Marli Cartmer-Congiu, 18, had recently finished her HSC at Brigidine College in Randwick last year, and had plans to take a gap year before studying nursing next year at university.

But on Saturday night her life came to a tragic end after taking GHB — also known as liquid ecstasy or fantasy — at a house party in Sydney’s inner-east.

Close friends of Marli said everyone was still coming to terms with the 18-year-olds shock death.

“We’re all still in shock, and some haven’t even processed it completely. This happened to the last person we all expected it from,” a friend said.

Tributes flowed on social media as friends said they will remember Marli for her beauty and talent that had gone too soon.

“My beautiful angel. May god hold you tight,” Karah Davis wrote on Facebook.

“R.I. P angel, gone too soon,” Evia Chalmers wrote on Facebook.

“You will always be missed, loved & thought of forever beautiful girl,” Maiya Moeller wrote on Facebook.

A NSW Police spokeswoman said officers were investigating after “emergency services were called to a home on Grandstand Parade, Zetland, in the early hours of Sunday morning and found an 18-year-old woman unresponsive”.

She was taken to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, where she died.

The principal at Brigidine College Sharyn Quirk said the community has been left empty and shocked at their own student’s death.

“It must be enormously difficult to lose a child. As a community we support Marli’s parents and family in our prayers and offerings,” Ms Quirk said.

“Not only was Marli a student of this College, she was a daughter, sister and friend to many.”

Ms Quirk said the Brigidine College community “values each student, and the sadness of this loss creates an emptiness in each of our souls.”

The school asked that the family’s privacy is respected during this time.

“I ask that you join the entire Brigidine community in praying for the repose of Marli’s soul, in the knowledge that today she is with Christ,” Ms Quirk said.

The death comes after hundred of people gathered yesterday at Gosford Anglican Church to farewell 19-year-old Alex Ross-King, who tragically became the fifth person to die from a suspected overdose at a NSW music festival this summer.

A report will be prepared for the coroner.
