It’s been only four weeks since Donny Galella held his sister Maria’s hand in her final days of breast cancer.
And that’s why the celebrity stylist will be wearing nothing but pink on Jane McGrath Day, day three of the Pink Test on January 6.
Maria Iannuzzi was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2018 aged just 50.
She died after the cancer spread to her brain, which is what happened to Jane McGrath, wife of Test cricketer Glenn McGrath and the woman who the Pink Test honours.
“A year after she got diagnosed, I wanted to raise awareness of the McGrath Foundation and we set up a charity called the Family Foundation,” he said.
“We had a big fundraiser and my sister came up and we raised about $40,000 and all my celebrity and designer friends all donated things, it was beautiful and she was the belle of the ball.
“That’s how I became friends with the McGrath Foundation to help them.”
Maria’s husband Angelo and son Daniel, 26, are cricket fans and will be joining Mr Galella at the Pink Test and the pivotal day three when the Jane McGrath silk will be unveiled on the field and the players hand their baggy pink caps to Glenn McGrath.
Meanwhile Mr Galella will offer his styling tips at the styling station at the Jane McGrath High Tea at Allianz Stadium.
“It’s going to be such a special day for us as a family and we are doing it in Maria’s honour, we’ll all be wearing our pink of course, and it is a beautiful way to remember her,” he said.
The McGrath Foundation’s mission is to provide a breast care nurse for each person diagnosed with breast cancer.
The McGrath Foundation funds 193 nurses who provide free essential physical and emotional support to anyone experiencing breast cancer and their families from diagnosis and throughout their treatment.
The 15th year of the Pink cricket Test will be held at the Sydney Cricket Ground from January 4.
