Kmart has issued a warning about a $30 kids’ toy after it became part of a risky TikTok trend.
TikTok users are filming themselves doing risky stunts on roads, in car parks and even a fast food drive thru using the Anko wiggle cart, a DIY children’s scooter which moves when a rider uses their feet to push back and forth on the front pedals.
A Kmart spokesman said the retailer was “disappointed” the children’s toy was being used for the dangerous stunt videos.
“The Wiggle Cart is designed for ages 7+ to use under adult supervision and has a listed weight capacity of 50kg… we are disappointed to learn that people are misusing the product,” the spokesman said.
“We encourage customers to follow all usage and safety instructions included on the product packaging and the Kmart website page.”
“This includes… wearing the proper protective helmet, clothing and to never use on the open road or near car traffic.”
Australian users of the video app have gone wild for the wiggle cart, posting dozens of videos of themselves completing a variety of risky downhill stunts using the toy.
One TikTok user posted footage of themselves sitting on the toy being towed by a white car across a car park, before letting go of the rope and spinning off at high speed.
Another TikTokker uploaded a video of a friend hurtling down a hill in their cart on the wrong side of the road and into a traffic light intersection, swearing and cheering with delight.
A third user shared a clip of themselves and friends assembling a wiggle cart inside a Hungry Jack’s restaurant, before taking the cart for a speedy spin in the drive thru lane.
Other TikTok fans shared clips of themselves and several other cart riders racing down ramps in shopping centre car parks, colliding with each other or cement pillars as they skidded across the floor.
“Worth every penny,” one was captioned.
Another captioned their video: “Somebody please organise a Sydney wiggle cart meet.”
Kmart’s website reveals the toy, which is on clearance for $29, is currently sold out online.
Videos of the carts in action have tens of thousands of likes online, with TikTok users flooding the comments to ask where to buy the toy.
“Going to Kmart as soon as possible, this is sick,” one wrote.
“They’re sold out everywhere, I want one so bad,” a second wrote.
Some suggested meeting up in groups for “tandem drifts” in car parks at Penrith and Sydney Olympic Park.
None of the videos uploaded show riders wearing helmets, and many of the clips are filmed at night.
Safety warnings reveal the product is designed for children aged seven and above and designed to support a maximum weight capacity of 50kg.
But the warnings clearly did not deter some riders, with one commenting on a video: “(I weigh) almost double the recommended weight.”
Another revealed issues with the cart’s braking system.
“Don’t trust the breaks (sic) they don’t work if you go downhill,” another TikTokker commented on a separate video.
“Went down an Ikea car park ramp, did mad drifts and almost died,” another claimed.
