NSW Police take AVO out against wife of fashion icon Wayne Cooper

Wayne Cooper’s wife Elizabeth Adams is due to face court on Monday over an alleged domestic incident, but the famous clothes designer says their marriage is still going strong.

Fashion designer Wayne Cooper says his new marriage is still going strong despite recent police involvement between he and his wife.

Elizabeth Adams, who wed Cooper last December, is due to face Byron Bay Local Court on Monday charged with breaching an AVO taken out by NSW Police for the fashion icon’s protection earlier this year.

But the British-born fashion icon told The Daily Telegraph despite the court proceedings and several recent police visits to their multimillion-dollar Byron Hinterland home, the pair remained together.

“Our love and commitment to each other have only grown stronger. We are fully devoted to each other and eagerly anticipate sharing our future together,” Cooper said.

Cooper and Adams, a former UBS investment bank employee, tied the knot in a small ceremony nine months after meeting.

Adams said that her new husband’s former relationship with model Sarah Marsh had recently caused “immense pressure” for her.

“My relationship with Wayne has come under immense pressure lately, due to the tumultuous break up with his ex-wife,” Adams said.

“The AVO matter will be heard by a magistrate this week … and the court hearing is purely a formality.”

Adams arrived at court wearing all black clothing with a fresh baby pink manicure and pointed stilettos.

She sat in the back row of Byron Bay Local Court’s public gallery and opened an online Daily Telegraph article detailing previous coverage of the ongoing court proceedings.

Adams represented herself, requesting a non-publication order from Magistrate Karen Stafford and was put to the back of the court list.

However, she left early and said she would apply for a non-publication order at her next court appearance on August 19.

Police were called to the couple’s Byron Bay home twice in recent months – the same home where they married last December.

It is not the first time Cooper has found himself at the centre of an AVO, with police back in 2022 taking one out on behalf of his ex-wife Ms Marsh.

Cooper was eventually acquitted on two assault charges last August in Waverley Local Court and said afterwards the incident had “taken a toll” on him, but praised the support of his new partner.

“Elizabeth has helped and supported me greatly to get through this as it’s been tough dealing with this but now we can hopefully move on with our lives,” he said at the time.

Just two months later, Cooper and Adams purchased the home he previously owned with Marsh.

Bidding at his own auction, he and Adams – a former UBS banker – paid $3.871 million for the resort-style property, which includes a pool, tennis court and sprawling grounds with views over the Byron Hinterland.

It was that home which police were called to midmorning on Thursday, June 27, following a concern for welfare report by a friend of the couple.

Police then applied for an apprehended domestic violence order (ADVO) against Adams, the conditions of which included a ban on her being in Cooper’s company “for at least 12 hours after drinking alcohol or taking illicit drugs”.

However little more than a week later on July 7, police were called back to the couple’s home and charged Adams with contravening the AVO – a charge Adams told The Daily Telegraph she was unaware of.

Cooper and Adams married just nine months after they met and “instantly” fell in love.

The relationship between the British-born fashion designer and Adams came unexpectedly, with the pair meeting after Adams moved up to Byron Bay for a “small break”.

“I have finally found that special, truly unique one-of-a-kind girl who I adore,” Cooper told The Daily Telegraph last year.

“She is my soulmate and best friend, we are inseparable and so happy.”

“Looking for love was by no means on my agenda — and then along came Wayne!” she said last year.

“He wears his heart on his sleeve and is very open and loving. I feel so incredibly blessed to have met Wayne and to be building this new life together.”
