Cook MP Simon Kennedy has been crowned Canberra’s fittest politician, after coming out on top of a gruelling three-week health challenge.
Led by exercise peak body AUSactive, 37 MPs and 150 staff took part in the Fit For Office contest, with participants logging their workouts and using apps to measure their heart rates.
The heart rates were then converted to “effort points” – with Kennedy swooping in late to beat reigning champion, Ironman triathlete and Labor’s Fenner MP Andrew Leigh.
Kennedy lost 5kg and trimmed down his body fat by 4 per cent, working out at Anytime Fitness centres across his electorate.
Kennedy — who replaced Scott Morrison as the member for Cook earlier this year — also has a regular running mate in Aussie cricket legend Steve Waugh.
“Andrew Leigh was out in front, but there was a big late swing and I got up — hopefully a sign of things to come in 2025!” Kennedy joked.
