BEING locked up with crooks has cruelled convicted murderer Ron Medich’s plans to build a sea-change retreat on the ironically named Crooked River Road.
The millionaire property developer may never see his plans come to fruition, much less enjoy the proposed expansive five-bedroom home which won Kiama Council approval in the final days of his murder trial.
The location is the controversial land near pristine Seven Mile Beach at 16 Crooked River Road, which murdered standover man Michael McGurk reckoned Medich would use in a plot to bribe the former boss of the planning department.
A jury this week found Medich guilty of ordering the $500,000 hit on McGurk in 2009. Medich won approval on March 8 to build the $600,000 home before being locked up on Monday.
It would span 11,950sqm and overlook Gerringong Golf Course.

The Gerroa land became the subject of a corruption hearing after McGurk’s 2009 murder when a tape recording was played which McGurk had bragged would “bring down the government”.
On the tape, Medich boasted he could make a payment to the former boss of the planning department Sam Haddad in exchange for development approval on the Gerroa land.
But ICAC dismissed the claims as “nonsense”, noting Medich had never met Mr Haddad, no money had ever changed hands and no development application had been submitted.
Medich bought the 1.2ha property on Crooked River Road for $2.19 million in December 2007.
