Police Raid at a party in Sydney

The daughter of controversial surgeon Charlie Teo has shared dramatic video of the moment Raptor Squad officers burst through the doors of an inner-city party and arrested two people.

Sophie Teo was attending the party at Foveaux St in Surry Hills when police were called in after receiving a noise complaint in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Ms Teo claimed in the video, posted to her Instagram story, that the raid was “unnecessary”.

But police sources told The Daily Telegraph the Raptor Squad was only called in to assist after partygoers refused multiple requests to turn the music down and bottles were thrown at the officers initially on the scene.

In her Instagram video, Ms Teo complained that a bed and TVs were broken during the raid.

“Raptor Squad called for the most relaxed party,” she wrote.

“The most unnecessary bulls**t I’ve ever experienced. This is what our taxpayers money is going towards.”

Police sources said the first noise complaint was received about 8.30pm, but when officers attended the property those inside were hostile.

After several other noise complaints, a warrant was applied for allowing police to enter the property and seize electronic equipment.

But it will be alleged that when officers returned to carry out the warrant their access was blocked, resulting in Raptor Squad and the dog unit to be deployed.

Two people – a 21-year-old man and 21-year-old woman – were arrested and charged with assaulting and hindering police.

An occupant of the property will also be issued a fine for allegedly failing to follow a noise abatement direction from police.

One attendee at the party, who did not want to be named, claimed the music had been turned off before midnight.

“At 9.30pm the cops came and told us to turn the music off as they’ve had noise complaints,” they said.

“We told them we knew we are legally allowed to have music on until 12(am), so we kept the party inside the property and turned the music off at exactly 11:50pm.

“At 12.15ish the cops kicked the door in … they continued to stay in the house for almost an hour.”

Ms Teo’s controversial neurosurgeon father Charlie has been unable to operate in Australia for more than a year as he is the subject of a Health Care Complaints Commission investigation.

Complaints were made against Dr Teo to the Medical Council of NSW regarding his treatment of three patients with glioblastoma.

It is understood it relates to his decision to operate and informed consent, post-operative care and follow-up.

In August 2021, Dr Teo was banned from performing high-risk brain surgeries without the written approval of a second independent neurosurgeon but qualified neurosurgeons have been reluctant to take on the role.

This means Dr Teo has not operated in Australia in 15 months but as he awaits his hearing, he has been consulting with cases overseas.

In an explosive 60 Minutes episode last month, Dr Teo was accused of charging families of two children with brain cancer large fees to operate on them which he categorically denies.

“That’s an absolute insult and it’s simply wrong,” Dr Teo told The Saturday Telegraph.

“I don’t know any doctor that’s not personally affected when they have complications. Every doctor has complications, but what I vehemently deny is that I trivialise them and that they don’t take an emotional toll on me.”

Last year, Dr Teo’s other daughter Nicola had charges dropped against her over a 2019 car crash that left a former bikie critically injured.

She was set to go to trial in June 2021 when prosecutors elected not to go ahead after she pleaded not guilty to dangerous driving occasioning grievous bodily harm.
