Big Banana one day, Urunga beehive the next, where to next for the Passive Massive?

“Our one rule is no changes post-production. All the effects happen on site, which makes for some funny fail shots.”

It all started at the Big Banana but the Golden Dog is one of their favourite subjects.

Grace and Lloyd Brejwo were married in March 2020 but Covid put an end to their honeymoon plans.

With inspiration from Hamish Blake’s ‘Holiday here this Year’ campaign and a love of big things – and cringe worthy dad jokes – the Passive Massive was born.

Previously from Newcastle the couple now call Grafton home.

Grace is a schoolteacher and one year she took her students on an excursion to the Big Banana and saw a map of Australia’s Big Things.

“I thought it was amazing that, in among all of Australia’s beautiful wilderness and landscapes there are so many massive statues populating the sky line,” Grace said.

“After Lloyd saw the map, we did some internet searches and noticed no one was doing silly, interactive shots with these amazing statues and we just thought ‘what a missed opportunity Australia’ so the Passive Massive was born.”

The Golden Dog is one of their favourite subjects and recently a student of Grace’s captured it sporting a mask posting: amazing safety message mate, but let me fix your mask, it’s crooked as a dog’s hind leg.

And from massive, to the bonus medium list, they recently visited the Cunningham’s banana stand on the highway near the Coffs Harbour hospital.

They are hoping to travel the country and take photos with all things massive and/or passive.

“Our one rule is no changes post-production. All the effects happen on site, which makes for some funny fail shots.

“We have so much fun coming up with the concept, making ridiculous ‘dad joke’ puns to go with the image, and most of all interacting with the owners and local population when we are there.”

They are trying not to travel too much at the moment while they see what happens with the current Covid situation.

“However, we already have a few ideas and posts ready to go so keep a keen eye out for passive, massive things near you.

“We have heard Ballina is shrimply the best.”

They also have plans for the Urunga’s Beehive and Taree’s Big Oyster.
