A father-of-four who was “always” just “a phone call away” has been identified as the victim of an alleged murder with a bladed weapon in a suburban Coffs Harbour street.
Warren West – known affectionately as ‘Westy’ to many in the community – died in the early hours of Thursday, September 26.
Tristan Rowland, 24, has been charged with Mr West’s murder.
Mr West leaves behind four kids, Joseph, Zoe, Jettika and Kira, as well as grieving mum Leeann West.
Friends have remembered Mr West as a generous man who was always willing to help friends and family.
“He would give his shirt off his back for those in need and was always only a phone call away if we ever needed anything,” Samantha Baker-West states in an online GoFundMe fundraising campaign to help pay for funeral costs.
Mr West also leaves behind siblings Lee Michael, Justin and Samantha and devastated grandparents Lorraine and Arthur Baker.

Mr West has been identified after police revealed on Friday that Rowland had been charged with murder.
Emergency services were called to Kurrajong Street following reports of an assault about 4.15am on Thursday, September 26. A person walking on the street at the time alerted authorities, it’s understood.
Coffs/Clarence Police District officers found Mr West suffering critical upper body injuries.
NSW Ambulance paramedics treated Mr West and raced him to Coffs Harbour Hospital, where he later died.
Coffs/Clarence District Crime Manager Detective Chief Inspector Guy Flaherty said at a press conference earlier tgat it was believed the men knew each other and an edged weapon was used. He described the situation as “tragic”.
“In general, the use of edged weapons can dramatically change the circumstances of an altercation and in this case a 41-year-old male lost his life as a result,” he said.
Rowland was arrested on Azalea Ave at Coffs about a week later, about 4.20pm on Thursday.
He was denied bail and faced Coffs Harbour Local Court on Friday.
The 24-year-old did not apply for bail, but it was refused anyway.
The case was adjourned to December 10.
