A fire, followed by a large gas explosion has torn through two mobile homes at the Nambucca Heads Pelican Beach Caravan Park.
The fire set an LPG gas tank alight, causing a big explosion that could be heard from several kilometres away.
Several Fire & Rescue trucks responded to battle the blaze at about 3pm on Thursday, November 10.
FRNSW Acting Inspector Simon Busby said fire crews responded quickly, working extremely hard to contain the spread to just one home.
“The surrounding cabins were under threat as the blocks are close together,” Mr Busby said.
Mr Busby said residents in surrounding cabins were evacuated early as one of the homes collapsed.
“Luckily, no persons were home in the cabins affected and no one was injured,” Mr Busby said.
Crews from Macksville were first on scene, using a defensive property protections strategy before Nambucca, Bowraville and Coffs Harbour fire crews responded to provide support.
NSW Rural Fire Service also assisted in providing water supply.
“The crews did a great job, they were quick to act,” Mr Busby said.
The cause of the fire is currently being investigated.
Mr Busby highlighted the importance of having a well maintained smoke alarm.
