The Plantation Hotel Coffs Harbour historic photo gallery

Trivia nights, masquerade balls, bands, football presentations even the original sketch for the iconic Plantation Hotel - it’s all in our mega gallery.

The Plantation Hotel was established by Edwin ‘Ted’ Russell and officially opened its doors in February 1955.

Here we take a trip down memory lane - trivia nights, masquerade balls, bands, football presentations even the original sketch for the iconic building - it’s all captured in our mega gallery:

On opening day the hotel offered free beers all day, capitalising on newly established laws allowing hotels to extend their closing time from 6pm to 10pm.

The Coffs Coast Advocate reported that there were ‘long lines of parked cars as far as the eye could see’.

In the 1950s and 1960s, the Plantation was a stopover point for bus tours travelling between Sydney and Brisbane with guests spending the night in Coffs Harbour and shown films and slides of the local area.

In more recent times it was known for its nightclub and for attracting some big names including Hilltop Hoods and Frenzal Rhomb.

In 2016, after 60 years of operation, management decided to close the nightclub and shift its focus towards a more family-friendly approach.
