Teens charged after alleged stolen ute chase, Coffs Harbour

An unlicensed teen is alleged to have been behind the wheel of a stolen car that took police on a wild goose chase from Coffs Harbour to Toormina – and back again. Here’s what happened.

An unlicensed teen is alleged to have been behind the wheel of a stolen car that took police on a wild goose chase from Coffs Harbour to Toormina – and back again.

Police received reports of a Ford Ranger ute stolen from Toormina about midday on Sunday.

They spotted the ute a short time later in Prince St, Coffs Harbour, when it allegedly failed to stop.

After a lengthy pursuit, police used road spikes to stop the car on Hogbin Dr.

Two teenage boys, aged 15 and 16, were arrested at the scene and taken to Coffs Harbour Police Station where they were charged.

The 16-year-old was charged with take and drive conveyance without consent of owner, police pursuit - not stop - drive dangerously, face blackened/disguised with intent to commit indictable offence and being unlicensed.

He was granted strict conditional bail after appearing at Coffs Harbour children’s court on 21 Monday October.

He must appear before the same court on 11 November.

The 15-year-old boy was dealt with under the Young Offenders Act.
