Six teens charged with police pursuit, break and enter, and auto theft caught on yacht at Port Macquarie

A group of teens aged between 13-16 have been charged after they allegedly stole a ute from Ballina, broke into a premises, and took police on two chases before being caught on a yacht 365kms away.

Six teens aged between 13 and 16 years old have been charged after they stole a ute in Ballina, allegedly broke into an undisclosed premises and took police on two pursuits on the state’s Mid-North Coast.

About 2.10am on Friday morning police received a report of a stolen Dodge Ram utility from a home in Skennars Head, Ballina.

Another report sighted the same vehicle at a break and enter.

Mid-North Coast police began an investigation and located the ute travelling on Hastings River Drive, Port Macquarie, about 1am early Saturday morning.

Police directed the driver to stop yet he didn’t and a pursuit was initiated.

During the pursuit police successfully deployed road spikes on Houston Mitchell Drive, Lake Cathie but the pursuit was stopped due to safety concerns.

The ute was tracked and a second police pursuit was initiated on the Pacific Highway, Thrumster.

The vehicle then stopped on Aston Street, Port Macquarie, before six young people exited the car with four of them swimming through a nearby canal and entering a moored yacht.

Four youths were arrested on the yacht commandeering a civilian vessel.

Police arrested the other two young people in nearby bush.

The group were taken to Port Macquarie Police Station where they were charged.

Two 14-year-old boys and two 16-year-old boys were charged with be carried in conveyance taken without consent of owner and aggravated break and enter and commit serious indictable offence.

The 13, 15 and one 14-year-old boy were refused bail to appear before children’s court on Sunday March 3.

The other three boys were given strict conditional bail to appear before children’s court on Tuesday April 2.
