It’s been touted as an “iconic” tourism-boosting development to rival those in other coastal towns. See what it will look like here.

It has been touted as an “iconic” waterfront building that will reinforce Coffs’ status as a key tourist destination.

The state government’s redevelopment plans for the TS Vendetta site have officially been lodged, and artist impressions of just how the new community building will look have been revealed.

The TS Vendetta building will be razed to make way for the new cafe, storage facility and public amenities at a cost of $5 million.

“Numerous jobs will be created through construction stages and the introduction of the food and drink premises,” the development documents state, “the proposed development presents itself as an attractive location for tourists.”

The TS Vendetta building has operated as a naval training school for young people, and the plans lodged with Coffs Harbour City Council reveal the Naval Cadets will have a space in the new building.

It is proposed Coffs Harbour Outrigger Canoe Club and Coffs Harbour Volleyball Association would also be given storage space in the new development.

The architectural plans for the site have been produced by Port Macquarie-based firm King & Campbell, who were awarded the coveted role in the project team in May this year after pitching their designs during a competitive expressions of interest campaign.

The multimillion-dollar plans were first announced by Water, Property and Housing Minister Melinda Pavey and Coffs MP Gurmesh Singh in April.

Ms Pavey at the time stated it was about “putting community benefits at the heart” of the state government’s broader $20m revitalisation project of the jetty foreshores, which is currently in the master planning process and will include mixed-use development on Crown land along Jordan Esplanade and Marina Dr.

A draft plan unveiled late last year drew controversy over its provision for a retirement home by the site of the Former Fishing Club, some of Coffs’ most coveted real estate. However a 12-member committee which includes an array of local faces has been tasked with better aligning plans with the community’s desires for the reinvented precinct.

A second community consultation stage is slated to take place later this year.
