A $1.4 million upgrade of the Moonee Beach Hotel is proposed, including a stand-alone bottle shop and a stylish makeover of the outdoor area.
A development application has been lodged with City of Coffs Harbour for extensive internal and external works at the pub, which has forged a family-friendly reputation with highway travellers and local residents at the fast-growing Moonee commercial precinct.
Centrepiece of the proposed changes will be the demolition of the existing bottleshop which adjoins the pub and the construction of a freestanding drive-through takeaway liquor store in the carpark.
There would be no change to the outlet’s operating hours.
A number of alterations are planned for the hotel itself, including a reconfiguration of the bars, gaming area and beer garden.
The approach to the outdoor eating area and adventure park including mini golf – a favoured haunt with the punters on sunny weekend afternoons – will be freshened.
The changes include canopies over the alfresco area, while the gateway roof leading to the outdoor area will be demolished and replaced by a ‘vergola’.
The works will see a slight reduction in car park spaces at the site – from 104 down to 98.
Petersen Consulting Group states. “The development will have a limited impact on the visual environment”.
“ … it results in alterations and additions to the existing hotel which will improve its appearance; and, construction of a new freestanding building (bottle shop) that is simple in design, but which fits with the wider commercial environment,” planning documents read.
The estimated cost of the works is $1,422,500.
