A woman who helped store a stolen caravan has faced court, where it was heard she was at her controlling husband’s behest.

The storage of the dodgy van was the “final straw” for Sarah Nicole Tierney, 41.

Tierney pleaded guilty to receive property (theft) serious indictable offence over $5000 while facing Coffs Harbour Local Court on Wednesday.

The court heard Tierney’s husband faced separate charges, which were not detailed.

Police facts state a 2010 Jayco caravan was dropped at Tierney’s property, allegedly by her husband, on January 14, 2022.

Tierney’s offending took place between Coffs Harbour and Woolgoolga.

Magistrate Ian Rodgers told the court Tierney came to the attention of police amid a major criminal investigation in January 2020, during which officers intercepted phone calls.

Mr Rodgers said Tierney’s offending was serious, particularly given her co-accused’s alleged matters.

The court heard Tierney and her husband were involved in a “rocky” relationship, she allegedly felt controlled by him and was doing “as she was told”.

Mr Rodgers said Tierney’s offending was at her husband’s behest, however, told the court it was clear she knew what she was doing, according to intercepted calls.

The court heard Tierney’s criminal record includes several matters of dishonesty and stealing.

Tierney has since ended the marriage, with the court hearing the latest matters were the “final straw” and she has started a new life in Sydney.

A charge of receiving a stolen 1995 Everingham boat was withdrawn.

The police prosecutor said Tierney expressed limited insight into her offending and instead opted to blame her “controlling” partner.

Tierney’s lawyer told the court Tierney played relatively small role in the bigger picture.

The court heard Tierney was declined to take part in community service because she would not be allowed to mix with people who had committed “higher offences”.

Mr Rogers said that was “ridiculous”.

He fined Tierney $2500 fine and handed down a two year community corrections order.
