Pacific Highway crash at Coffs Harbour ends in SES rescue

A man has been carried out of a ditch after he allegedly led police on a dangerous car chase. See how the pursuit unfolded.

Police have arrested a man after he allegedly attempted to evade them in a car before crashing and running away.

Police allege the man was speeding on the Pacific Highway at Korora when he caught the attention of officers who then started to chase him about 10pm on Wednesday.

They were unable to catch up to the car before the 29-year-old crashed into a guard rail on a highway off ramp in Moonee Beach.

Police allege he then fled on foot and officers chased him.

The man allegedly attempted to jump about 4m from a railing into a culvert, where he was eventually arrested.

Due to flood water and long grass, State Emergency Service volunteers were required to rescue the man who was found with leg injuries.

The man was taken to Coffs Harbour Hospital for treatment.

A blood and urine sample was obtained and he was released to police.

He was then taken to Coffs Harbour Police Station where he was charged with drive in a manner dangerous, drive motor vehicle during disqualification period, resist officer in the execution of their duty and breach of bail.

The man was kept in custody to appear in Coffs Harbour Local Court on Thursday.
