A 49-year-old Coffs Harbour woman with virtually no criminal history appeared in court on Friday after police stopped her on the Pacific Highway and allegedly found ice, cocaine and cash in her car.

With her grey hair up in a bun, Melanie Cox fought back tears and at one point put her face in her hands as the court dealt with her matter.

Ms Cox was stopped in a vehicle on the Pacific Highway at North Boambee Valley about 9.45pm Thursday as a part of a police operation investigating the supply of prohibited drugs between Sydney and Tweed Heads.

Police allege they found 245g of methylamphetamine (ice), 30g of cocaine and $4180 cash in the car.

She was also subjected to a roadside drug test, which allegedly returned a positive result for methylamphetamine (ice) and cocaine.

The court also heard on Friday that police allegedly found three phones in the car.

Ms Cox was charged with two counts of supply prohibited drug (indictable quantity), two counts of possess prohibited drug, recklessly deal with proceeds of crime and goods in personal custody suspected being stolen (not motor vehicle).

Her lawyer Ahmed Ibrahim told the court that Ms Cox was the owner of a furniture business and had no criminal history other than a traffic offence about 10 years ago.

“She has an unblemished record in relation to drugs and is the owner of a legitimate furniture store,” Mr Ibrahim said.

In arguing for bail he told the court that the 245g of methylamphetamine allegedly found in the car was less than what was deemed a commercial quantity and that she has no “criminal associations”.

Magistrate Ian Rodgers told the court the most serious offences were the “supply charges” and described the 245g of methylamphetamine as a “very large” amount.

In relation to her claim she had won the cash found in her car he told the court this was a “very common excuse given in court”.

He ultimately decided to grant her bail on a number of conditions including she report to the Coffs Harbour Police station every Monday, Wednesday and Friday and abide by a 9pm to 6am curfew.

She must also agree to carrying just one phone and providing details of the device to police.

The matter was adjourned to January 25 when she is expected to enter a plea.
