Police chase car south on Pacific Highway at Coffs Harbour

A man was heard shouting “I’m not f***ing stopping” as an officer pointed a gun toward the vehicle on the highway south of Coffs during a dramatic operation which ended in an arrest near the Bellingen exit.

A man has been arrested following a dramatic police chase, triggered when a 47-year-old man failed to stop on the Pacific Highway north of Coffs Harbour at around 11am on Monday, September 19.

Around 11am officers from Coffs Clarence Police District attempted to stop a silver Holden sedan travelling south on the highway near Arrawarra, north of Woolgoolga.

The driver failed to stop and police initiated a pursuit, however it was terminated near Woolgoolga due to safety concerns.

Soon after, the vehicle was seen on the Pacific Highway, near the shopping complex that includes Anaconda and Sydney Tools just south of the Coffs CBD, before a second pursuit was commenced.

Road spikes were successfully deployed on the highway near the Bellingen exit, Waterfall Way, before the vehicle came to a stop and a man was arrested a short time after.

The 47-year-old was taken to Coffs Harbour Police Station, where he is assisting police with inquiries.

An eyewitness account from the scene just south of the Coffs CBD at the shopping complex, said the driver of the silver sedan was shouting “I’m not f***ing stopping” as a police officer pointed a gun toward the vehicle.

The motorist was heading into Coffs Harbour from the south on the highway and was stopped in slow moving traffic and noticed the events unfolding in the south bound lanes around 11.20am.

He said there was an unmarked police car with an officer standing out of the vehicle and leaning over the door with a gun pointed at a silver sedan.

The driver of the silver sedan was heard to yell out: “I’m not f***ing stopping” and sped off towards the south.

There was also a police motorbike behind the car.

After the silver car sped off, the passing motorist noticed up to six police cars with lights and sirens heading in the same direction.
