Plans for a $2.7m makeover of the Boambee Central Shopping Centre, headlined by a brand new medical hub, have been revealed.

As well as a single-storey freestanding medical centre, the revamped corner site on Linden Ave and Bruce King Dr would see new customer entry structures to the shops and a revamped carpark.

There would also be a covered walkway for pedestrian access linking to the footpath and bus stop on Linden Ave.

The applicant is Newton Denny Chapelle and the plans have been lodged with City of Coffs Harbour for determination.

The proposal seeks to construct a 600 sqm building for a medical centre with four tenancies.

The larger tenancy would include six consulting rooms and a staffroom.

It’s envisaged the medical centre would operate seven days a week, and that 17 additional car park spaces would be created.

“The proposal will provide ancillary employment for medical and administration services with the operational staff expected to equate to some 15 persons,” planning documents state.

“We note given the number of consultation rooms, not all practitioners will be on-site at any given time.”

Medical procedures will not be undertaken at the facility, though a pathology room is likely to be part of the package.

It’s proposed the centre would operate from 8am-7pm weekdays, and 9am-5pm on weekends.

The associated refurbishment of the shopping centre would see the creation of a new entry to clearly define the access to the IGA supermarket and to break up the facade of the existing building.

“The proposal will provide improved accessibility to medical services within the Boambee and broader Coffs Harbour area,” the documents state.

“It will provide for approximately 15 jobs upon completion, in addition to employment created during construction.”
