Named: Teen charged after man found unconscious near pub

A teenager charged after a man was found unconscious on a footpath near a Coffs Harbour hotel in the early hours of Sunday has been granted conditional bail.

Clancy Webber, 18, appeared via audio visual link at Coffs Harbour Local Court on Monday, July 4, before Magistrate Dakin.

A plea of not guilty was entered to the charge of reckless grievous bodily harm.

Emergency services were called to a licensed premise at about 2.30am on the Pacific Highway following reports a man had been assaulted.

Officers from Coffs/Clarence Police District found a 28-year-old unconscious man on a nearby pavement.

He was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being taken to Coffs Harbour Base Hospital, and then flown to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital in Sydney.

The man, who sustained a suspected skull fracture, remains in a critical condition.

A crime scene was established.

Just over an hour later officers were patrolling Shephards Lane when they stopped and arrested an 18-year-old man.

Mr Dakin granted Webber bail on the condition he reside at a specified Coffs Harbour address and that he is not to go near, or contact or try to go near or contact (except through a legal representative), any prosecution witness.

Further, he is not to drink alcohol or take drugs unless those drugs are prescribed by a doctor.

A second teenager has also been arrested in the wake of the incident.

A 19-year-old man was arrested at a Bonville address at 12.10pm on Sunday and taken to Coffs Harbour Police Station where he was charged with affray.

He was granted conditional bail to appear at Coffs Harbour Local Court on Wednesday, July 27.
