COFFS Harbour City councillors will again look at sites for the proposed Northern Beaches Multi Purpose Centre.
At tonight's council meeting, planning staff are recommending that councillors confirm the West Woolgoolga site, on land already owned by Coffs Harbour City Council, as their preferred option for the centre.
They will recommend the site layout be reviewed in conjunction with the determination of the most appropriate access point for the development of the land for sporting facilities and the centre.
The council's Sports Facilities Plan, adopted in October 2010, recognised the need for an indoor sports facility for the Northern Beaches.
However, it sees the development of such a centre as a medium-term plan, to be carried out within 8-13 years (2019-2024).
At this year's August 11 meeting, councillors decided to add the proposed centre to their priority list for Regional Development Australia funding or alternate funding. The second round of RDA funding opens in November, but the centre is only number eight on the council's list and is not 'spade ready'.
The estimated cost of the centre is $5 million.
