A man has been flown to hospital barely conscious and unable to speak after being stung “50 to 60 times” by a swarm of bees on the Coffs Coast.
It is believed the man was moving a tree while operating a machine when he disturbed a hive and was swarmed by the insects, suffering anaphylaxis.
NSW Ambulance inspector Karl Wilson said the man was stung to his face, neck and torso and had a potentially life-threatening allergic reaction.
Emergency services were called to the incident on Cedar Log Rd, in Tyringham near Dorrigo, about 12:15pm on Tuesday.
The man, believed to be 58, was semiconscious and not able to speak due to swelling around the throat area when he arrived at Coffs Harbour Hospital in a stable condition.
Mr Wilson said: “Crews administered adrenaline along with other medication before he was flown to hospital.”
The man is expected to make a full recovery.
“It’s a great reminder for those who have allergy medication to carry it with them at all times, in case of an emergency,” Mr Wilson said.
