A father of three was caught with what the magistrate described as an “extremely high” blood alcohol reading for a day after offence.

Kurt Nathan Ramsay was before Coffs Harbour local court on Monday charged with mid range drink driving.

The court heard the BWS employee had been drinking at home on the night before he was picked up by police behind the wheel, travelling just above the speed limit around 7.30am on March 20.

Ramsay was breath tested and returned a reading of 0.119 which Magistrate Ian Rodgers described as “extremely high” for the morning after.

Mr Rodgers said this kind of morning after drink driving is of a “very high prevalence in this community”.

Ramsay’s lawyer told the court he had been dealing with the break down of his relationship and was drinking at home on the night before the offence and was not sure of the number of drinks he had consumed but “did not feel hungover” when he drove and was “very surprised at the high reading”.

Mr Rodgers accepted that Ramsay had an extremely good traffic history and was a person of “otherwise impeccable character”.

He was fined $800 and disqualified from driving for three months.
He will then be eligible for a 12-month interlock licence.
