A family was lucky to escape as flames tore through their Safety Beach home on Tuesday.
Emergency services were called to the home on Safety Beach Road about 10pm.
Neighbour Rory Corbett described the frightening scene.
“I heard someone run out and she was just screaming ‘everyone get out, it’s going to go up’ and before I knew it the whole house was on fire,” Mr Corbett said.
“Then a few minutes later the whole roof caved in- it was so bad.”
It was understood a woman and a child escaped the flames.
Coffs Harbour Fire Station commander Michael Kearns said the home was fully alight when firefighters from five separate units attended.
The NSW Fire Bridge was assisted by the Rural Fire Service.
“It took over an hour to put it out and seems as though we are going to have a fire duty throughout the night to put out any spot fires,” Mr Kearns said.
“All the occupants were thankfully safe and the neighbours were evacuated to make sure they were safe too.”
He said the cause of the fire was under investigation.
