From a helipad to a major subdivision there are several development applications pending in the Bellingen Shire:

Backlash to helipad proposal means local Crs will decide

Hermes Estate retreat at The Promised Land has lodged a development application for a helipad at the private hotel about 15 minutes from Bellingen.

A photo of a couple emerging from a helicopter is already featured on their website for the ‘absolutely private arrival’ or you can chose the discreet, late model Range Rover, with tinted windows to pick you up at Coffs Harbour airport.

For up to $11,000 a night you have access to a private butler and concierge 24-hours-a-day.

The proposal went on public exhibition from Monday November 30 last year, until Monday January 11, but still hasn’t come before Councillors for determination.

Bellingen Shire Council Mayor Dominic King says he can’t say when this will take place as several reports including one on the potential noise impacts had to be completed by staff.

Subdivision at Urunga

A proposal is before Bellingen Shire Council to subdivide one lot (at 3982 Giinagay Way, Urunga) to create 65 separate lots.

The proposal went on public exhibition on Monday June 7, and will close for submissions on July 7.

Cr King says that over the next two years he expects up to 500 new blocks to be approved in the Urunga area.

With the region in the grips of a housing crisis, it is hoped this extra supply will ease the pressure on the market.

Cr King travelled to Canberra on Monday to attend the Australian Local Government Association’s National General Assembly, and call on the federal government to release $4 billion in unallocated Emergency Response Funds to help tackle the region’s housing crisis.

There are also several development applications pending in the Coffs Harbour Local Government Area:

Moonee subdivision part of a bigger picture

Plans for a 31-lot residential subdivision at Moonee were lodged last month.

The land is located approximately 1.4 kilometres north of the Moonee Beach Shopping Centre and is positioned on the eastern side of the highway between Moonee Beach Road and Skinners Creek.

Estimated cost of the work is $907,555.

The site is surrounded by road infrastructure on all sides and 524 residential allotments to the east and west which have already been approved.

Plans lodged for a new firearms shop

The Coffs Coast may soon be home to another gun shop if development plans are approved.

A development application with Coffs Harbour City Council proposes to establish a “rural supplies operation” stocking firearms in Industrial Drive.

It is also proposed that the operations would include firearms repairs and manufacture, with two employees on site.

$6.3m plans lodged for nature-based cabins to be built at the Big Banana

The Big Banana’s vision to get even bigger is another step closer to fruition, with $50m expansion plans for the fun park forging ahead.

A development application has been submitted to Coffs Harbour City Council for 40 new nature-based cabins, marking the first time the Coffs Harbour tourist icon would have accommodation available on site.

The self-contained cabins – costing around $6.3m to build – would be perched on a hill that currently remains undeveloped at the property, offering coastal views for holiday makers.

Aldi sets its sights on Moonee Beach shopping centre

Moonee Marketplace’s newest owner, Western Australian property fund manager Primewest, has proposed new plans to bring an Aldi store into the mix.

A development application has been lodged with Coffs Harbour City Council on behalf of the company to undertake a reconfiguration of the shopping centre, consolidating existing tenancies to make way for the German supermarket chain.

The works are estimated to cost $2.5m and would see the mini-major tenancies of Best & Less, a vacant store, and the centre management office merged.

C.ex Group’s $44m CBD high-rise plan

The C.ex Group is planning to construct a $44-million high-rise in the heart of the Coffs Harbour CBD.

The City Boulevard and an adjoining building currently tenanted by Dollars and Sense would be demolished to make way for the 13-storey mixed-use residential building, aimed at accommodating for an ageing population.

The C.ex Group is the owner of City Boulevard, which has been described as being past its design life.

It is located opposite C.ex Coffs with frontages on both Vernon St and Harbour Dr.

Plans lodged for $25.4 million redevelopment of The Promenade on Coffs Creek

In the development application before Coffs Harbour City Council the site has been described as the gateway to the Jetty precinct from the western end.

The current Promenade site is now more than 20 years old.

Plans have been revealed for the $25.4m redevelopment of The Promenade on Coffs Creek.

Plans involve the demolition of existing dated buildings and the construction of a three-storey tower which will include commercial premises (office, retail and cafe) on the ground level and 39 residential apartments on the upper levels. There will be underground parking and aquatic leisure facilities.

Tradie shortage could put the brakes on boom

Coffs Harbour is experiencing a perfect storm of multimillion dollar projects either underway or in the pipeline in coming years but a shortage of tradespeople is hampering the boom.

In the thick of the action is local company Faircloth and Reynolds which has been doing business in Coffs Harbour for the past 36 years.

But, the shortage of tradespeople is a common problem according to their Business Development Manager Peter Richardson.
