Heavy rain over two days caused flooding in Bellingen

Businesses in Bellingen were forced to close due to flooding and staff shortages, while some locals soaked it up in their usual style.

Bellingen residents are left with a clean up after flooding across the region.

According to the Bureau of Meteorology, approximately 115mm of rain fell over Wednesday and Thursday.

Bellingen residents are no strangers to floods.

Many businesses such as Black Bear and Old Butter Factory cafe closed early on Thursday due to staff shortages caused by the wet weather.

Although mask restrictions have eased, many Bellingen locals have been isolating for a different reason.

The northerly exit (Lavenders bridge) was closed off on Thursday afternoon but was opened again on Friday morning.

A further 30-50mm of rain is expected on Saturday in Bellingen (BOM).

Some locals made the most of the wet conditions.

“Every time it floods we come out here and skim board for pretty much all the day,” Zy Bradbrook said.

“We’ve had worse,” Levi Sankey said.
