Greens march to a different jazz beat in Bellingen

THERE was plenty of noise in Bellingen on the weekend and not all of it was from the Jazz Festival thanks to the March Against Climate Apathy.

THERE was plenty of noise in Bellingen on the weekend and not all of it was from the Jazz Festival.

Greens' candidate for Cowper Carol Vernon had organised a March Against Climate Apathy and found some like minded people to walk alongside her on Sunday morning.

Marchers chanted "wake up, act now" and "for the children, act now" as they marched through Bellingen and startled the café patrons and visitors to the Bellingen Jazz Festival on Sunday.

Prior to the march, Greens NSW Upper House MP Dr John Kaye and Mrs Vernon addressed the gathering.

Mrs Vernon said the reason for the organised march was an important one.

"The planet is running out of time to exit fossil fuels and take the pressure off the climate," Mrs Vernon said.

"Gas is an expensive and dangerous distraction."

Another march for the same reason is being held this Sunday in Coffs Harbour.

"Come and march again in Coffs Harbour if you are concerned about the future of your children on a hotter Earth," the Greens candidate said.

"Come and march if you believe your children may need to live in an uncertain and dangerous future."

The upcoming march will be led by Greens NSW MLC, David Shoebridge, starting from the Coffs Harbour Jetty.
