First Avenue, Sawtell: Man charged with high-range drink-driving after crashes

A suspended driver, allegedly more than six times the legal alcohol limit, smashed into a parked boat and trailer before crossing to the wrong side of the road and slamming head-on into a ute along a busy Mid-North Coast road.

A man allegedly blew more than six times the legal limit after smashing into a parked boat and trailer, then crossing to the wrong side of the road and slamming head-on into a ute on a busy road near Coffs Harbour.

Emergency services were called to First Ave, Sawtell, about 4.50pm on Wednesday following reports of a crash.

Police arrived to be told a sedan had allegedly crossed onto the wrong side of the road, colliding head-on with a utility.

NSW Ambulance paramedics assessed both drivers at the scene for minor injuries.

Police will allege in court the driver of the sedan, a 33-year-old Coffs Harbour man, had also crashed into a parked boat and trailer on the same street a short time earlier.

It will also be alleged his licence was suspended.

The man was subjected to a roadside breath test, which allegedly returned a positive result.

He was taken to Coffs Harbour Police Station, where he allegedly returned a breath analysis of 0.325.

The 33-year-old was charged with driving with a high range concentration of alcohol and not giving particulars to the owner of damaged property.

He was granted strict conditional bail to face Coffs Harbour Local Court on January 29.

In an unrelated incident that occurred around the same time in Sawtell, pictures posted on Facebook showed a car that ended up on a guard rail at the Boambee headland.
