Council moves to sell land

COFFS Harbour City Council is continuing to move towards selling its $3 million, 3248sqm land holding at 23-31 Gordon St.

COFFS Harbour City Council is continuing to move towards selling its $3 million, 3248sqm land holding at 23-31 Gordon St.

At Thursday's meeting, councillors decided to seek legal advice and handle the sale as openly as possible.

After moving into a long confidential session during Thursday's council meeting, the councillors unanimously approved the following motion: "Council will seek legal advice from a suitably qualified lawyer with property law accreditation from council's legal panel as to the form of an appropriate contract for the sale of 23-31 Gordon St and this information be presented for councillors' consideration at a meeting of councillors as soon as possible."

The motion was moved by Cr Jenny Bonfield and seconded by Cr Bill Palmer.

Mayor Keith Rhoades said yesterday they had based the decision on the advice they had received, the purchase price, the capital gain and potential return.

Informed sources outside the council have indicated that the potential buyer is interested in a large multi-store project incorporating retail space, commercial space and accommodation.
