Bowraville murders: Police receive information from community in re-appeal as $1m reward stands

Police have received ‘a lot of information’ from in and around Bowraville after re-appealing to the community for answers to three young lives cut short in the 1990s.

Homicide detectives have received “a lot of information” in their week-long re-appeal into the suspected murders of three Bowraville children in the 90s.

Members of the State Homicide Squad have been on the ground at Grant’s Hall in Bowraville, as part of Strikeforce Anchor, as they continue searching for the remains of 16-year-old Colleen Walker Craig who disappeared in the 90s.

Police have also been appealing for information related to the murders of Colleen’s cousin, 4 year-old Evelyn Greenup, who also went missing in 1990 and 16-year-old Clinton Speedy Duroux who disappeared in 1991.

Police have re-appealed for information that will lead to the remains of Colleen Walker Craig, last seen in Bowraville, aged 16 in 1990.

Detective Superintendent Danny Doherty, the State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad Commander, said the fresh appeal had received positive reactions but there were “mixed emotions”.

“That’s understandable considering what’s occurred in the community in the decades of heartbreak that they've had,” he said.

The detectives have had both direct and indirect contact with people wanting to provide information at Grant’s Hall and via Crimestoppers.

Police have travelled into the surrounding areas of Bowraville to take statements and people have travelled from Sawtell, Nambucca Heads, Coffs Harbour and South West Rocks to Bowraville to provide information to police.

Mr Doherty said the job for Strikeforce Anchor was to consolidate the information and assess it, before conducting the next lines of inquiry in the ongoing investigation.

There is a $1 million reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or people responsible for the murders, as well as for information leading to the location and recovery of Ms Walker Craig’s remains.
