$5m Coffs Harbour foreshore building: Council nears agreement with potential tenants after years vacant
It’s big, beautiful, expensive – and still empty. But after two years sitting idle, this state government built foreshore structure might finally be getting used for something. We spill the tea.

It’s big, white, expensive – and still empty.
After over two years vacant, there’s hope on the horizon for a vacant state government built Coffs Harbour Jetty Foreshore building, as council considers potential tenants.
The “cold-shell” building – worth a cool $5million – was constructed by the state government in conjunction with council and became available for rent in 2022.
However, despite its enviable harbourside location and multiple approaches by council no one has taken on the lease of the Jetty Foreshore Community Building at Jordan Esplanade, possibly due to its potential fit out costs.
A pivot to the development application of the first floor usage in April, may have been the turning point the building needs as the City of Coffs Harbour is set to consider not one but two lease proposals.
The council approved to change the use of the upper floor from shops to restaurant or cafe or function centre at its April 10 meeting.
At this Thursday’s meeting council will have not one, but two potential lessees to consider and have completed a confidential report assessing both proposals.
The City of Coffs Harbour agenda notes the positive economic impacts securing a tenant will have on the region’s economy.
Presently the upper floor of the building has been used for public consultations of the proposed Jetty Foreshore redevelopment plan.
