THE prime development land on Edinburgh St up for auction on Thursday was passed in.

The final bid was $1.9million but it was not enough to have the property put on the market.

Sydney-based LJ Hooker Hotel and Tourism principal Graeme Hennessy said there were four interested parties at the auction and there will be further negotiations with them to try and secure a sale of the deceased estate.

"I think we're going to get there but it may take a couple of weeks before it's finalised," Mr Hennessy said.

The prospective buyers want to be assured of a couple of conditions of sale before they jump in and begin a multi-unit development on the property.

Mr Hennessy said he's sure one of the Jetty's most picturesque streetscapes the quaint bungalow at 150 Edinburgh St that has stood watch over the harbour for more than 55 years will sell sooner rather than later.

"It's probably the best remaining site in all of that precinct," he said.
