Dr Pierre Mol puts the finishing touches to a painting of Janis Joplin which will form part of a huge mural at the Buddha Bar and Restaurant at Byron Bay.

When it’s finished Dr Pierre Mol reckons it will be the best mural in Byron Bay.

An artist as well as a Doctor of Philosophy, Pierre is painting an enormous mural on two walls on the stage background at the Buddha Bar and Restaurant.
The mural is a tribute to the legends of music including Michael Jackson, Janis Joplin, Freddy Mercury, Kurt Cobane, Elvis, Jimmy Hendrix and more.
It’s also part of the inaugural Byron Bay Brewery Arts Award which will be announced on November 23 and is expected to attract Byron Bay’s most talented artists.
Pierre, who established the Fine Art Empire in Sydney in 1986, will be one of the judges of the award.
“I have been an artist since I was a young child and I created the largest mural in the Southern Hemisphere for the Sultan of Brunei,” he said.
“My work hangs in offices, residences and palaces all over the world, but I am really excited about this project.”
Pierre will also paint two more murals at the Buddha Bar including a rainforest scene and a mural of Balinese carvings.
His work is expected to be finished at the end of this month.
The rock star mural will be painted in black and white, while the other murals will be in colour.
