Prominent Northern Rivers artists have supported the Greens candidate for Richmond with a creative approach to campaign fundraising.

The Greens Art Auction was held on Wednesday night in support of Greens candidate for Richmond Mandy Nolan.

Archibald People‘s Choice Award in 2020 winner Angus McDonald, from Lennox Head, was among the artists to donate original works to the cause.

“A strong, compassionate, straight-talking local candidate like Mandy Nolan who loves our region is just the type of person we need to represent us in Canberra,” he said.

“We need Mandy because things need to change.

“She’ll be a strong voice for the people of Richmond.

“The two-party system is failing all of us.

“We need someone with a fresh perspective, who can give as good as she gets and knows that the role of Government at the federal level is to genuinely serve the Australian people.”

Dale Rhodes has donated a nude figurative oil painting of Mandy Nolan.

Artists Brendan Kelly, John Nicholson, Claire Yerbury, Karlee Mackie, Rene Bolton, Lindy Lynch, Mike Chavis, Emma Walker, Michelle Dawson, Locust Jones, Carmel Lola Debruil, Hilary Herrman, Michael Cusack, James Guppy, Dr John Dahlsen, John Nicolson, Zion Levy Stewart, Rose McKinley, Penelope McManus, Steve Kilbey, Andrea Newton and Richard Jones also donated works.

Ms Nolan, who has lived in the region for 30 years, said she was grateful for the contributions.

“I cannot thank these artists enough,” she said.

“I am moved by their generosity and their belief in change. I am also moved that they were so willing to donate their beautiful work to get my voice to Canberra.

“The arts have been the most overlooked sector during the pandemic, yet the arts always step up when called upon for support.”

Mr McDonald said artists needed representatives “who understand the value of the arts and will fight to promote and protect it”.

“The Arts is a crucial part of society and under this Government, it has been treated with contempt and undermined,” Mr McDonald said.
