A pregnant woman who confronted her partner with claims that he was cheating on her, fled their Ballina home only to be allegedly dragged back to the address, and kicked in the head, a court has been told.
Robert John Anderson, 43, pleaded not guilty at Byron Bay Local Courthouse on Monday November 14 to two counts of common assault, domestic violence related, on his former partner.
The court heard Anderson became enraged with his then girlfriend after she confronted him with suspicions that he was seeing another woman, police documents state.
The alleged victim ran from the home, “calling out for people in the area to call the police”, court documents state, “and the accused kept calling out to her telling her to ‘shut up’ and yelled that she had mental health problems”.
Anderson allegedly tried to pull her back to the home by her red hoodie, and police facts state she briefly latched onto a car in the driveway before being taken inside to the lounge room.
“He allegedly then pushed her to the ground and kicked her in the right side of her head three times,” police state.
The woman then alleged Anderson grabbed her from behind in a one-armed chokehold.
She was allegedly held in a headlock for five minutes, and told police she could not breath and “felt herself starting to pass out”.
The case has been adjourned to January 13, 2023 at Ballina Local Courthouse.
