A veranda collapse in Mullumbimby has left five people injured, with a pregnant woman rushed to hospital.

About 12.15pm on Saturday, emergency services were called to Palmwoods Road, Palmwoods.

“The residents had a family get together and gathered on a wooden veranda which sits about 3m above the ground,” Acting Inspector Neaves of the Tweed/Byron police district.

“They all grouped together on the balcony and without notice the floor fell from underneath causing them all to fall on the ground.”

A 31-year-old female pregnant woman was treated at the scene and then taken to Tweed Hospital with abdominal, head and ankle pain.

Westpac Lifesaver helicopter dropped a crew and a doctor assessed her, but was not in need of an airlift and was taken by ambulance.

A number of the people who fell off the balcony drove themselves to hospital.

Byron Shire Council engineers have been notified.
