Robert Karl Huber faces Lismore District Court charged with murder of partner Lindy Lucena in Ballina

A northern NSW man allegedly murdered his partner with his bare hands less than a week after he was released from prison on bail. Here’s what we know.

A Ballina man allegedly murdered his partner with his bare hands less than a week after he was released from prison on bail.

Robert Karl Huber faced Lismore Local Court on January 5 charged with the domestic violence-related murder of Lindy Lucena.

The 66-year-old man is also alleged to have breached a domestic violence order against him when he carried out the murder of his 64-year-old partner.

Ms Lucena was a resident at Reflections Caravan Park in Ballina with her partner Huber, according to friend and neighbour Nicole Bennett.

She said Ms Lucena was a flood victim and the couple had been living in a motorhome together for six months.

Ms Lucena was known as ‘Kimmy’ to residents of the caravan park.

“She was a lovely girl, she had a heart of gold. She was the most wonderful girl I’ve ever met,” she said as she watched a forensic team investigate the couple’s former home.

“I just hope she didn't go through no pain, no pain at all.”

Ms Lucena’s body was discovered by Ballina police on Holden Lane, near Cherry St, early on Wednesday morning.

It’s alleged Huber went in to Ballina Police Station about 12.30am on Wednesday and told officers he was concerned for the woman’s welfare, before she was found with “significant head injuries”.

Richmond Police District Commander Superintendent Scott Tanner said after Huber’s arrest that officers alleged the murder took place between 7pm on Tuesday and 12am on Wednesday.

He said police did not believe a weapon was involved in the murder, which allegedly occurred while Huber was on bail.

Huber also faced charges unrelated to the alleged murder at Ballina Local Court.

He was charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm (DV), trespassing and two counts of common assault.

No pleas have been entered to any charges at this stage.

Huber was refused bail by the court.

He was expected to appear over audio video link at Ballina Local Court on January 12.
