A Byron Bay Bowling Club employee has been caught red-handed driving while intoxicated after he admitted to drinking around eight beers at his place of work.
Byron man Sebastian Lee Brady pleaded guilty at Byron Bay Local Courthouse on Monday to drink driving. He recorded an alcohol reading in the mid range category of 0.140.
Police pulled over the 31-year-old’s Toyota Landcruiser to conduct a random breath test on Marvel St in Byron Bay on October 16 at 12.30am, police documents state.
Brady told police he had consumed alcohol 20 minutes prior.
He said he drank about eight schooners at the Byron Bay Bowling Club over a three-hour period.
“His face was flushed, his eyes were watery and speech slow,” police state.
Brady was arrested and taken to Byron Bay Police Station when officers discovered he was unfit to drive.
In court, Magistrate Karen Stafford said Brady “has a terrible driving record”.
She convicted Brady and fined him $800.
Brady was disqualified from driving for a three-month period and has an alcohol ignition interlock period of 12 months.
