LAST weekend the Mullumbimby Moonshiners hosted their Moonshiners For Mental Health charity day for beyondblue.

The event drew a huge crowd for an exciting day of local rugby and plenty of fun for the whole family.

The first of two games saw Mullumbimby tough out a win against the in-form Ballina RFC.

The game was as close as you’d expect from the top two teams in the reserve grade competition with both teams throwing everything at each other.

After scores were tied at 3-3 at half-time the Moonshiners got the upper hand when man of the match Nick Frazier crossed the line for a try on the back of some impressive runs by the Shiners backline.

Mullum sealed the deal when centre Jack Govett scored the match-winning try in front of the faithful Moonshine supporters.

Final score Mullumbimby 15– Ballina 13.

In the second game Byron Bay got the win against Ballina, keeping their undefeated record for the season.

Both teams were impressive in defence and points were hard to come by until Byron edged in front towards the end to finish the game Byron Bay 15–Ballina 6.

The event was a huge success and the club raised nearly $5000 for a charity that is very close to their hearts.

Club president Teale Pyne thanked everyone involved and “the big crowd of rugby fans that turned up to support this great cause”.

“The Moonshiners encourage everyone to look out for their mates and anyone dealing with anxiety or depression to reach out for help,” Mr Pyne said.
