62-year-old man critical after being struck by car in Byron Bay

Update Tuesday 7.30am: Police are investigating after a pedestrian was hit by a car in Byron Bay on Monday.

A NSW Police spokesperson confirmed that about 5.40pm, Monday July 12, a 62-year-old man was walking along Byron Street in Byron Bay when he attempted to cross Fletcher Street.

“As he stepped out onto the roadway, he was struck by a Toyota station wagon,” the spokesperson said.

“The pedestrian suffered serious injuries and was airlifted to Gold Coast University Hospital where he remains in a critical condition.

“The female driver was taken to Byron Bay Hospital for mandatory testing.”

Inquiries are continuing by officers from Tweed/Byron Police district.

Anyone who may have witnessed the collision, or who may have dashcam footage are encouraged to contact police.

Original story: Emergency services have been called to the scene where a man has been critically injured after being struck by a car in Byron Bay.

A spokesman from NSW Ambulance confirmed a man in his 50s was stuck by a car in Fletcher Street after 5.45pm on Monday.

“He has injuries to his face, head and legs,” the spokesman said.

The Westpac Life Saver Rescue Helicopter has also been tasked to the scene.

NSW Police has confirmed the situation is still ongoing.
